Client Programs

Our service programs

From maintenance to consulting, we have an approach that will suit you.

Gentler Maintenance

  • When mowing and trimming and weeding feel like too much work, but you still want that view out the kitchen window of those bulbs you planted years ago.

  • When the shrubs get out of hand and you're at a loss for pruning solutions.

  • When the grass wants to be friends with your peonies.

  • When this is your life, we'll get in there and gently bring your beloved spaces back under control.

With care and focus, we'll do the upkeep on your green spaces. If you're tired of the damage that string trimmers do to your dogwoods and lavenders, we'll bring unhurried care to the job of keeping the trees and plants happy. Of course, we'll mow your lawn too, if you like.

Starting out: developing a plan, laying the groundwork

  • We'll start with a walk-through interview, understanding your values, objectives and challenges. Using our local knowledge and experience, we will give you a proposal that matches our services to your needs.

  • Over time, we'll make recommendations based on our experience with your landscape assets.

  • An annual review will fine-tune your services and we'll share our learned experiences with you. If there's a plant struggling, or sign of animal damage or disease concerns, we'll discuss natural solutions, preferring natural response over fertilizers, pesticides and industrial methods. We will be aiming for an ecosystem in balance.

Evolving into natural and native

A couple of steps on from initial engagements, we'll look towards implementing some more back-to-the-land practices. Again, in close consultation with you, we will assess your current situation and develop a roadmap to get your landscape to where you'd like to be.

  • For gardeners that have a plan, but need extra hands and legs to get the vision implemented, we'll come along for the ride, offering suggestions as we go.

  • We'll start with suggesting on-site shredding of leaves and tree debris to use as mulch. Naurally, we will dispose of diseased material and noxious invaders off-site, but the vast majority of organic material is from pruning, mowing and leaf fall, all of which can be re-deployed as mulch and amendments.

  • We might suggest beginning a modest home composting program. With careful siting and screening with enclosures, compost tumblers (or piles if you prefer) will fade into the scenery.

  • For more densely built situations, we might suggest a vermiculture program.

  • Once your compost has cooked to completion, we'll take that bounty and add it to the soils that most need it, or to the plants you want to be early recipients of the vegetable equivalent of a nutrient bar - slow release, complete and essential for the soil surface inhabitants.

Finishing flourishes - evolving, adding and augmenting.

For folks that are looking to enhance their environmental contribution, we'll develop next-level approaches that build on well-informed practices: the application of biochar in key locations, planning for foliage and flower sequencing and assistance with propagation and preservation of heirloom or valued specimens.

  • Adding hardscape elements. Over time, as gardens develop their own personality, it often becomes clear that a sitting place would be nice - somewhere to enjoy the showcase. If we've done it right, you'll be attracting birds, bees and wildlife. Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to become a regular stop on a red fox's dinner route, or be host to a brood of mammal babies come spring.

  • Making homes for non-humans. Providing a comprehensive habitat is possible, even in densely built situations. If you care about nature, we can help you support the plants and animals -- as rewarding an enterprise as there could ever be.
